Robert Ludlum was born on May 25th, 1927 in New York and grew up in New Jersey. Before his career as an author, he acted and worked as a producer in many shows. He was also in the US Marine Corps, and married actress Mary Ryducha and had three children. He published his first book in 1971, which was very successful and was called 'The Scarlatti Inheritance'. However, his most well known series was the Bourne series, which he started in the 1980's. In all, he wrote more than 25 novels, producing over 290 million books in print, which have been translated into 32 languages.
Robert Ludlum died of a reported heart attack in his house in Florida in 2001 when he was 73. However, there was no autopsy performed and no one is sure what happened, Earlier, there may have been an attempt on his life when he was sitting on his recliner at his house and... he caught on fire! Because he had gone through quadruple bypass surgery and had osteoarthritis, he was unable to escape his recliner and was burning for over six minutes in his recliner before the emergency services arrived. He was taken to the hospital with serious burns. No one was in the house except his wife, who chose not to accompany him to the hospital and was in the kitchen drinking. After a few weeks, he returned to his house and was found dead just 30 days after the fire incident. There are rumors that his second wife killed him for his money.
